Designed in Leitrim and knit in Kilcar, Donegal, the Folk Cardigan is crafted from 100% merino wool, dyed and spun in Donegal. Rooted in tradition yet refined in its finish, it is a piece shaped by place, made slowly, and intended to last.

Reimagined for AW26 in a soft light grey, with cream and charcoal detailing, this colourway takes its cues from the muted tones of the North West landscape, weathered stone, low cloud and soft winter light. Subtle flecks within the Donegal wool bring depth and variation to the surface, a characteristic of the yarn that makes every piece feel quietly individual.

The silhouette is neat and considered, sitting close to the body without restriction. The merino wool offers a soft yet structured handle, naturally breathable and insulating, making it a piece that carries easily across seasons. Buttoned, it feels composed and timeless, worn open, it softens into something more relaxed.

Each cardigan is finished with individually handmade porcelain buttons, created by Kathleen in Connemara. No two are identical, each one adding a quiet sense of individuality and craft.

This is an everyday piece elevated, grounded in utility but refined in detail, designed to be worn often and kept for years.

Style Notes
The Folk Cardigan carries a quiet simplicity, influenced by both Irish and Japanese approaches to form and function. Its strength lies in restraint, clean lines, natural texture, and a deep connection to material and place. The moss tone anchors it firmly in the landscape, making it an easy companion to denim, linen, or wool, something that settles into daily life with ease, from early mornings outdoors to evenings by the fire.

This unisex, round neck, lightweight dream is currently available in three sizes. Please note sizes are rough guides only as these are handcrafted garments and it's hard to label exact sizes as they look different on everyone.

UK Size 6-10. I am size UK8 and 5'8" and I wear this size, see photo. My sister is size UK6 and 5'3" and wears this size slightly oversized.

Product Care

The great thing about merino wool knitwear is that it requires far less washing than synthetic fibres. Merino wool is breathable and self cleaning. Airing your knitwear on a crisp, breezy day is enough for the wool to neutralise and feel fresh again. Wool is naturally dirt repellent. Even liquid dirt finds it hard to penetrate the fibre, but rather stays on the surface, where once dry, it can be brushed off easily. Wool is also able to bind and neutralise sweat and is naturally resistant to odours, making it ideal for multiple wears. So, if your knitwear isn’t physically dirty, there is no rush to wash it! If there is a small mark, a spot clean will do the job. The less you wash it, the longer your wool will last.

If you do need to wash your knits, Pearl recommends hand washing with care:

  • Use warm water and mix it with a gentle wool detergent.
  • Submerge the garment and soak it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Carefully rinse the garment in warm water.
  • Press or roll in a clean, dry towel to remove as much water as possible. Do not wring it.
  • Never tumble dry pure wool.
  • Place it flat on a dry towel, keep it away from sunlight and let it air-dry. Avoid any creases or wrinkles by straightening out while damp. Wool will dry in the shape it is placed in.
  • If your washing machine has a good delicate programme, you can machine wash in cold water before drying as detailed above.

** Please note: do NOT wash any pompoms in the washing machine, unless you want to see your fluffy head topper turn into a squidgy felt pebble forever. **
